What we do
At Offaly Local Development Company (OLDC), we are committed to supporting communities to develop and enhance their natural infrastructure, creating opportunities for outdoor recreation that benefit physical health, mental well-being, and social connection. Offaly’s unique natural environment, rich biodiversity, and distinctive landscapes—including its bogs, wetlands, eskers, and canals—are central to the county’s identity, culture, and quality of life.
Through our involvement in the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), OLDC supports the development, enhancement, maintenance, and promotion of outdoor recreational amenities across rural Offaly. Funded under the Our Rural Future initiative, ORIS helps communities create and improve accessible outdoor spaces that encourage people to connect with nature and enjoy active lifestyles. Projects supported by OLDC between 2022 and 2023 include the Lusmagh Heritage Bog and Amenity Walk, Cloghan Lake Amenity Walk, St. Cormac’s Heritage Walk in Kilcormac, the Figile River Walk Upgrade in Clonbullogue, and the Shinrone Sensory Nature Trail.
