About Tús:

The Tús initiative is a community work placement scheme which provides short-term working opportunities for unemployed people. The work opportunities benefit the local community and are provided by community and voluntary organisations in both urban and rural areas.

Goal: Tús aims to break the cycle of unemployment and to prepare each person for a return to the labour market. Being employed provides a structure to life and gives a great sense of social inclusion, identity, and status.

About the RSS:

The Rural Social Scheme (RSS) provides income support for farmers and fishermen who are currently in receipt of long-term Social Welfare payments (including Farm Assist).

Goal: This scheme allows low-income farmers and fishermen who are unable to earn an adequate living from their farm holding/fishing to earn a supplementary income. Participants have the opportunity to improve existing or develop new skills.
