Local Development Week 2026 takes place from 28th September to 2nd October, providing an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the people, organisations and communities working every day to make a positive difference across Ireland.
This year’s theme, Local Action. Lasting Impact, reflects the power of communities to identify local needs, develop their own ideas and create meaningful change when the right supports and opportunities are available.
For Offaly Local Development Company, the week is a chance to put a spotlight on the people and organisations who are making a difference across County Offaly – from community and voluntary groups and social enterprises to individuals and local businesses.
Over the course of the week, we’ll be sharing stories and examples of local projects and initiatives, demonstrating the positive impact that can come from communities taking action and working together.

Create Green Celebration
Wednesday 30th September
A celebration and launch of Create Green, the flagship programme of the Fiesta Hall, while also celebrating our five Green Champions, who have successfully completed the programme. We will also launch the new Green Champion videos, showcasing their businesses, their Create Green journeys and the practical changes they are making. The programme has been designed and developed by OLDC and is funded under the LEADER Rural Development Programme 2023–2027.

As part of this year’s Local Development Week, people who have received support from a Local Development Company are encouraged to share their experiences on the national Local Development Week Padlet.
The digital noticeboard will bring together contributions from communities across Ireland, including photographs, videos and personal messages, creating a shared picture of the difference local development support can make.
Your contribution doesn’t have to be complicated. It could be a photo from a community initiative, a short video, a message about the support you received, or a few words about how an idea developed into something that benefited your community.
Every story helps highlight the people and local action behind positive change.
